Help! Social Media Swept me Away!
I have always said that a certain amount of stress is good. I think I mean that now, more than ever. By stress, I am meaning a little bit of urgency that makes you very aware of what you are doing and even question if it really what you should be doing.
That has caused me to flutter around getting updated and caught up on all my social media sites. You know, FaceBook, Twitter, Myspace and a dozen others. I got stuck on Twitter and really ignored everything else. A little stress stopped me and helped me even out my social activities.
A little stress can come from various sources For me, the stress that makes me pull out my A game is the amount of work I have to do. Too little, and I get lazy, my ADD takes over and I end up wandering aimlessly. Too much and I get overwhelmed and end up in a comfort zone accomplishing mediocre results.
I had to pull out my A game recently and it has caused me to focus on what really needs to be done. A couple weeks ago I took on more responsibilities. What that did, is shine a light on, a harsh bright light, the things I do that are non productive. It made me make lists of things I need to get done and prioritize those lists.
I rank activities to do first by determining the impact that action will have on my business. For example, if I have a web site to redesign, add an affiliate manager, add a mailing list manager and add a shopping cart, how do I determine what I should do first?
Here is how I would prioritize it an why.
- Finish redesign first - because that is what a visitor to the site would see first and be impacted the most by.
- Add a list manager - this would be helping me build a list, you don’t need an affiliate program or shopping cart for that.
- Add the Affiliate program - this helps build customers and can be used without a shopping cart.
- Finally add the shopping cart.
By determining what you work on first by how it impacts your income and focus on that first. I make a list sometimes daily and try to follow this rule. Sometimes I get off track, but so what, just get back on and keep going.
I will definitely try to get back here more often, I have been working on other peoples sites as a priority. There are some good things coming round the corner so keep tuned and focused.
