Help! Social Media Swept me Away!

I have always said that a certain amount of stress is good. I think I mean that now, more than ever. By stress, I am meaning a little bit of urgency that makes you very aware of what you are doing and even question if it really what you should be doing.

That has caused me to flutter around getting updated and caught up on all my social media sites. You know, FaceBook, Twitter, Myspace and a dozen others. I got stuck on Twitter and really ignored everything else. A little stress stopped me and helped me even out my social activities.

A little stress can come from various sources For me, the stress that makes me pull out my A game is the amount of work I have to do. Too little, and I get lazy, my ADD takes over and I end up wandering aimlessly. Too much and I get overwhelmed and end up in a comfort zone accomplishing mediocre results.

I had to pull out my A game recently and it has caused me to focus on what really needs to be done. A couple weeks ago I took on more responsibilities. What that did, is shine a light on, a harsh bright light, the things I do that are non productive. It made me make lists of things I need to get done and prioritize those lists.

I rank activities to do first by determining the impact that action will have on my business. For example, if I have a web site to redesign, add an affiliate manager, add a mailing list manager and add a shopping cart, how do I determine what I should do first?

Here is how I would prioritize it an why.

  • Finish redesign first - because that is what a visitor to the site would see first and be impacted the most by.
  • Add a list manager - this would be helping me build a list, you don’t need an affiliate program or shopping cart for that.
  • Add the Affiliate program - this helps build customers and can be used without a shopping cart.
  • Finally add the shopping cart.

By determining what you work on first by how it impacts your income and focus on that first. I make a list sometimes daily and try to follow this rule. Sometimes I get off track, but so what, just get back on and keep going.

I will definitely try to get back here more often, I have been working on other peoples sites as a priority. There are some good things coming round the corner so keep tuned and focused.

How to build your list with Giveaways

Giving away something to help list building is one of the oldest methods I know of. Nearly everyone I know of does it and will continue to do giveaways because it works great.

Personally, I don’t like writing an ezine or newsletter so giving away a report, short seven day course or even a leaked chapter from an ebook I sell as an incentive to sign up for a weekly email is something I don’t do.

But I still do giveaways. Read more »

How Keywords drive your Content, Ranking, Marketing and Advertising

Man what a busy 3 weeks I have had! Up to my eyeballs in keyword research with the 6 new sites being ramped up and made a startling discovery with my “Old Skool” method of research. I found out it’s pretty piss poor using only the Supply and demand to calculate the KEI to identify good keywords. Given the importance of an authentic marketing strategy, thorough keyword research plays top fiddle in this business, you need more data to help you.

Instead of being a slave to words, we need to own them. First the Why, then I will give a hint to the how.

Look, keywords drive most of what you do online when creating , marketing and advertising your site, here is a partial list of the controlling nature that words have over us; Read more »

Time Eaters-Distractions-Procrastination-Attention Getters

Holy crap, it’s 8 pm already??

LOL, I said that three days in a row last week, that made me mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!

Why? Well I sat down first thing in the morning to punch out a couple of articles for the blog here,  getting set up to write into Notepad with a nice list of links and resources at the ready for reference. Sounds good so far, but wait, I get an urge to go check something real quick, get distracted by something else, end up doing some research on a totally unrelated subject. Read more »

Finding Nichability in a Market - Old Skool

OK, here is my “Old Skool” method for identifying a hot niche, keep in mind this is in continuation of the The Anatomy of a Business Plan post a few days ago.

Now I say Old Skool because, well, I’m OLD,,, Not really, it’s just that I use this method and even created a product that taught it a few years ago. But, there has been some minor changes, namely where the information is found… Read more »

The Anatomy of a Business Plan

What specifically is a Business Plan? It is an outline of your business as a whole, including viability, description, analysis and goals. It is your businesses road map, your guide.

I like to start with a general Model in mind and a blank outline for my business plan. Before I do anything or spend any money, I use the plan to do my research on a new idea to see if it has any viability to make money online. I like to fail quickly, with no real investment other than a little time. Read more »
